Instillation of herbal medication through nose for Sinusitis, Migraine, Stroke and ENT conditions
Nose is the gateway to the head. Nasa hi shirso dwaram. In Ayurveda, Nasya is primarily recommended for diseases of the head, neck, eyes, nose, ears, and brain. It is one of the Panchakarma treatment to eliminate vitiated doshas and to balance Kapha and Vata Dhosas. Nasya prevents diseases of the head. Daily use of mild, regular oiling of the nose as part of a Dinacharya (daily routine) helps in maintaining one's health
Brimhana Nasya - Strengthens and nourishes tissues; often used in neurodegenerative conditions.
For Facial paralysis, Nasya allows medicated substances to reach the brain and facial nerve pathways (like the 7th cranial nerve), stimulating repair and function. Facial paralysis is primarily a Vata disorder (Vata vyadhi). Nasya helps pacify aggravated Vata in the head and neck region, restoring movement and sensation.
Nasya clears accumulated toxins and obstructions in the minute channels (srotas) around the face, improving circulation and nerve conductivity. Medicated oils used in Nasya are rich in neuroprotective and nourishing herbs that rejuvenate damaged nerve endings.
Shamana Nasya (Palliative) – For treating specific ailments like headaches, sinus and migraines.
Migraine is often caused by congestion or imbalance in the head region. Nasya eliminates excess Vata, Pitta, and toxins (ama) from the sinuses, nasal passages, and cranial tissues, reducing migraine frequency and severity. Medicated oils and herbal juices used in Nasya have analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, relieving pain and reducing sensitivity to light/sound.
Nasya therapy is one of the most effective Ayurvedic treatments for sinusitis (Peenasa), especially chronic sinus congestion, post-nasal drip, and recurrent infections. It works by cleansing, lubricating, and rejuvenating the nasal passages and sinuses.
The timing, dosage, and type of Nasyam will be tailored by our Doctor based on your prakriti (body constitution), season, and nature of the disease.
Pre-treatment: Facial massage and mild steam (Nadi Swedana) may be provided to loosen toxins.
Turmeric, pepper, dry ginger, and tulsi, often combined with ghee to form the smoking wicks. The smoke is gently inhaled through the nostrils and exhaled through the mouth,
Administration: 4–6 drops of warm medicated oil in each nostril.
Post-care: Dhumapana, herbal smoke inhalation, is done after Nasya to open up nasal and cranial channels and it helps to eliminate residual oil or kapha that moves into the throat after Nasya.
For acute migraine: 5–7 days may provide relief. For Chronic cases: 14–21 days of daily or alternate-day Nasya under Ayurvedic supervision.
